Couples counseling

I am passionate about supporting couples. My goal is to deepen the emotional connection between partners and to increase the honest expression of each partner's needs. I also support couples who want to reevaluate their relationship and potentially navigate the process of ending a partnership.

Areas of Interest & Focus

- Strengthening communication skills
- Identifying negative interactions patterns
- Uncovering how each partner's past histories are effecting the current relationship
- Altering substance use using a Harm Reduction* approach
- Poly affirmative counseling

Individual therapy

I work with adults, ages 18 and older, needing support related to a variety of mental health issues. I hope to help my clients better understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors impact their health and happiness. I strive to create a safe space for all people, regardless of race, faith, gender or sexual identity.

Areas of Interest & Focus

- Depression
- Anxiety, including general anxiety and social anxiety
- Altering substance use using a Harm Reduction* approach
- Strained relationships within family, peer groups, and/or romantic partnerships
- Transitions in the form of death, grief and loss, and adjusting to new life circumstances
- Identity exploration along with self-compassion, self-esteem, self-image work
- Mindfulness

* Harm Reduction Therapy is an approach to working with substance use that uses a non-dogmatic and non-judgmental perspective. It accepts that substance users do not necessarily need to reduce the consumption of substances in order to reduce negative consequences that can come from using drugs and alcohol. In therapy, you will be able to identify and navigate through the feelings associated with your drug and alcohol use and learn how to manage your substance use by identifying what you want - and what you don't want - from your relationship with it.

I believe that our well being is greatly affected by our early childhood experiences, our culture, and our relationships with ourselves and others. With a warm, intuitive, and empathic therapeutic style, I work collaboratively with clients to build a safe and trusting space. I strive to make clients feel valued, seen, and heard in a way that can lead to a clearer understanding of themselves and how they relate to the people and world around them. I take into account the culture, society, and family of origin that each of my clients come from in order to grasp a more full picture of their experiences. I work comfortably with clients from many different cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. I also work integratively, using a client-centered and relational style, while pulling from evidenced-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness based practices.

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, what kind of support you are looking for and to get a feel for if we are a “good fit” and would work comfortably together. During this call we will also discuss fees and scheduling.
